What to expect with your first Brazilian

Pain level will vary person to person. I will be honest and say that a Brazilian is not the most comfortable treatment. I do not recommend thinking it is not going to hurt, as this will create no placebo effect for you and probably is not true. It is very rare that it does not hurt your first time, as your first time is always your worst time. But don't fret just yet it does get easier the more often you come! The key to make it easier is consistency by coming every 3-6 weeks as results can last 3-6 weeks!

The sides of your bikini and the backside are by far the easiest parts of the treatment

The top & middle of the top are more sensitive but with breathing techniques & adding pressure it can be tolerable

The lip area is by far the most uncomfortable part of a brazilian as you have 1000's of nerve endings in that area

As I apply the sugar, I have to apply it in the opposite direction to get the hair stuck in the sugar. This can cause a slight tugging sensation that can sometimes be more uncomfortable than the pull itself. This is why I always recommend trimming the hairs to the appropriate length (1/4"-1/2") prior to your appointments

Once I pull the sugar I always recommend breathing heavily out while the pull is happening and I immediately apply pressure in the area as you will feel a tingling sensation after the pull

You can help your esthetician and yourself by pulling the skin taut as this will always help to make the appointment more comfortable for you

How to properly prep for a Brazilian

  • EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE I cannot stress this enough. You should regardless of what hair removal method you use be lightly exfoliating the area minimum 2-4 times a week

I personally like using a Small Dry Brush prior to my showers. I use it dry with no products at all, in small cicular motions opposite direction of my hair growth including my lip area for 1-2mins 3-4 times a week. This will get rid of dead skin cells, soften the hairs, rough up the follicle, and create bloodflow to help sync up your hair cycles. A great all-in-1 tool for everything hair removal related

The one I personally like is: https://www.amazon.com/SOUTH-Cleansing-Brush-Facial-Exfoliation/dp/B07XHKJ1RG/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=face+dry+brush&qid=1629758902&sr=8-8

Other products you can use to exfoliate are non oily scrubs, chemical exfolaition (i.e. aha's, bha's, pha's), and/or spa gloves (*spa gloves harbor bacteria if you are not santizing them inbetween each use and leaving them in the shower. Personally not my favorite option)

*MOISTURIZE Lightly moisturizing the area everyday is just as important. If your skin is dry &/or dehydrated that hair will not be able to break through the surface. Having soft supple skin will allow the hair to surface properly preventing ingrowns as well as making your appointments easier and more comfortable

I dont have a product recommendation for this, I really just prefer a sensitive fragrance free non oily basic lotion

  • PAIN RELIEVER Take a pain reliever 45mins prior to your appointment

  • TRIM For Sugaring longer hair is extremely uncomfortable as it breaks the hair and tugs on it during the application. You MUST trim the hair to the apprioriate length (1/4"-1/2";rice grain) prior to your appointment

  • NO CAFFEINE This creates bloodflow and will make you more sensitive

  • NO GYM Within 2 hours of your appointment, this creates more blood flow and can make you more sensitive

  • MENSTRUAL CYCLE You may receive a brazilian if you are on your menstrual cycle just please come in with either a tampon in or a diva cup and I suggest taking a pain relivever. Please note that you are more sensitive if you are about to start, during, or just ending your cycle

Can I get a Brazilian done during my cycle?

Absolutely! You may receive a brazilian if you are on your menstrual cycle, please make sure to come in with either a tampon in or a diva cup and I suggest taking a pain relivever 45mins prior to your appointment as you are defintely more sensitive if you are about to start, or are during, or just ending your cycle

Can I get a Brazilian done if I am pregnant?

Yes absolutely! Whether you are in early stages of pregnancy or right at your due date, it is safe to sugar during pregnancy. If you are in the first or second trimester of your pregnancy, please let me know so I can use products that do not contain any acids (glycolic, salicylic, etc.). Please also be aware that sugaring during pregnancy can be more uncomfortable and painful. Taking a pregnancy-safe pain reliever 1hr prior can help significantly

Brazilian Post Care & Ingrown Prevention

24-48hrs after getting a Brazilian

  • DO NOT do anything that will involve excessive sweating, excessive heat, &/or any sexual activies
  • DO NOT wear tight clothing, let her breathe
  • DO NOT go into any pools, oceans, saunas, hot tubs/jacuzzis, and/or take a full shower
  • DO NOT touch the area
  • DO NOT exfoliate the area for 3-4 days after

3-4 days after getting a brazilian

  • DO start to exfoliate minimum 2-4 times a week after your brazilian appointment
  • DO lightly moisturize the area everyday
  • DO Apply any clay masques or ingrown serums as spot treatments to any ingrown or bumpy areas

DO NOT shave or tweeze any hairs in between appointments. This will mess up your hair cycles and shaving will make your hair fuller making it more uncomfortable the next time you come in

Why should I come in every 3-6 weeks?

Unfortunately we have 3 different hair cycles Anagen(Growth), Catagen(Stagnation), & Telogen(Falling Out). We can only remove the hair that is in the Anagen phase and sadly we get new hair in every 30-44 days (everyone is different). Keeping up with your appointments is not only vital to keeping the treatment more comfortable, it's the only way to lead to permanent reduction, and syncing your hair cycles.

Why do I have so many tiny hairs left?

As mentioned above we have different hair cycles, so it could be that the new hair cycle is about to come in but they were still too short for the sugar to pick up.

You're not exfoliating &/or moisturizing so the hairs are getting trapped underneath not being able to be picked up by the sugar

I have small white bumps a couple of days after my treatment

During the hair removal process, our bodies experience a certain level of trauma. Don’t let that scare you! The results that we get from sugaring are worth it. We are damaging the hair follicles, causing hair to grow back slower. The stress that hair removal can induce on your body may occasionally cause some different reactions to the skin. With consistency these issues can subside and no longer happen.

I personally like to take a benadryl and I use hydrocortisone cream for a couple of days until any signs of irritation are gone. If it persists contact your doctor.

SKIN REACTIONS THAT MAY OCCUR AFTER SUGARING: Histamine Reactions Ingrown Hair Redness Perifolliccular Edema Bacterial Infection

Why do I seem harier?

There multiples reasons as to why you may be harier a few months into your treatments. But don't worry it isn't all bad!

If you are 3-4mths into your appointments and all of sudden see a lot of growth that is all similar lengths great news your consistent hard work is starting to pay off and your hair cycles are syncing! Leading towards a more even longer lasting Brazilian area!

Other causes:

  • Vitamins (i.e prenatals, biotin, etc)
  • Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
  • Changes in hormones
  • Endometriosis

always consult with your doctor if you see sudden or rapid consistent hair growth
